Starting off as quiet fishing village during the 1960s, Hikkaduwa has gone through a major transformation to be one of the most popular international beach holiday destinations of Sri Lanka. The coral sanctuary found on the coast of Hikkaduwa is a large shallow body of water protected by a reef, decorated with layers of multi colored corals, which is home to a myriad of colorful fish.
